I am happy to report that program plans for the upcoming NAMSS 36th Annual Conference & Exhibition, in San Francisco, Sept. 4-8, are rapidly progressing, and registration numbers for the event are already well ahead of registrations recorded this time last year for the 2011 event. If you haven’t yet registered for the conference, I encourage you to register soon to reserve your spot. New at this year’s conference is a “Partnering for Performance: Physician Leaders, Medical Staff Professionals and the Legal Team” pre-conference workshop tailored not only to MSPs, but also to physician leaders and the hospital legal team. issues affecting members’ facilities and will provide countless opportunities for idea sharing, collaboration, education and establishing best practice as it relates to patient safety. The relationship between medical services professionals and legal departments is inherent, and we are dedicated to building a stronger relationship between the two units. Having a resource in our arsenal that will provide opportunities to consult with experts about issues affecting our industry is a huge opportunity for NAMSS. Equally so, this partnership will provide NAMSS members the opportunity to educate and offer their expertise on various industry related topics to the AHLA membership. You will be able to network with the members of this group via AHLA’s dedicated online LISTSERV, its searchable membership directory and at co-sponsored events such as live, in-person programs and events and webinars. I encourage you to take advantage of this partnership and start making your connections today. You can find more information about AHLA on the NAMSS website in the Member Center. Tim Adelman, AHLA chair of the Medical Staff, Credentialing, and Peer Review Practice Group and NAMSS member of nearly two years, proudly attests: “My NAMSS membership has been an excellent complement to my AHLA membership because it provides me with access to the in-the-trenches feedback I need to tailor my legal services for medical staff and credentialing peer review matters. I have greatly appreciated the ability to bounce off various ideas for my clients with other medical staff professionals.” The NAMSS Board of Directors is committed to educating and guiding its membership through the transformation of the profession. With the support of AHLA, we are able to strengthen our force in numbers and continue to gain forward momentum though 2012 and beyond. ■ Best wishes, Constance E. Riedel, NAMSS President Continuing the forward momentum of the organization is the recent announcement of a joint membership initiative with the American Health Lawyers Association (AHLA). The plans for this exciting venture have been in motion for more than 12 months, so it brings me extreme joy to see the two organizations unite in a way that will drive membership to both associations through a series of partnerships, promotional strategies and collaboration at various events throughout the year. Now, more than ever, the leadership of NAMSS is committed to achieving the overarching goal of the strategic plan: to educate and guide the NAMSS membership through the transformation of the profession. Having access to more than 11,000 lawyers who are affiliated with AHLA, many of who are also part of the Medical Staff, Credentialing and Peer Review Practice Group, will provide excellent insight into the medical staff bylaws and reviews, performance of medical staff responsibilities, appointments and credentialing, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements pertaining to medical staff organizations.
