A Message From the NAMSS
Conference Chairman

Dear NAMSS Members,
Later this fall, I hope you plan to join
me and hundreds of your friends and
colleagues in New Orleans for the 38th
Annual NAMSS Conference on Oct. 4-8,
2014. The Conference Committee, along
with many others, have planned what
promises to be one of the best conferences
in NAMSS' history.
This year, more than 115 abstracts were
submitted for consideration, making it very
difficult for the Conference Committee to
choose just 40 abstracts for presentation at
the conference. We think we have provided
you a wide variety of topics and presenters,
some old friends and some new, from whom
we can't wait to hear. Again this year, those
who take full advantage of the offered
educational sessions can earn up to 16 CEs.
The 38th Annual Conference will kick-off
with the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on
Sunday evening on Oct. 5 and will conclude
on Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 8.
In addition to the Annual Conference, we
will offer several pre-conference sessions on
Saturday, Oct. 4 and and Sunday, Oct. 5.
These include:

* Credentialing 101: targeting those who
are new to the profession or just need
a refresher;
* CPCS and CPMSM Prep Courses: for
those preparing for certification; and
* Becoming Your Own Advocate: for those
who want to increase their professional
credibility and achieve their goals.
You will notice some changes to the
conference this year. After much discussion
and debate, we decided to enhance
other networking opportunities during the
conference and allow people to enjoy the
evening experiencing all that New Orleans
has to offer rather than hosting a NAMSS
networking event. The Visitors Bureau will
have someone at the conference to assist
anyone who wants help planning their
evening.
As for other networking opportunities,
each morning will start with continental
breakfast, and there will be several breaks
during the day. In addition, there are
two free networking events on Tuesday
morning that all conference attendees
are encouraged to attend. The first is the

On Wednesday morning, we'll hold the
Regional Roundtable Breakfast session,
formerly the Regional Luncheon Roundtable.
There is no additional fee to attend any
of these events, unlike previous years.
However, we ask that you sign up to attend
these events when you register for the
conference.
I can't end without mentioning the venue
for this year's conference. The Hilton New
Orleans Riverside is a beautiful hotel within
walking distance of the French Quarter,
incredible restaurants, shopping, and just
about anything else you might want to
experience in this historic city.

strategic direction, and operational
support for these divisions of Intermountain
Healthcare. She has system-wide responsibility for
Intermountain's Centralized Credentials Verification
Program, Medical Staff Services, Provider Data
Services, Physician Relations, Continuing Medical
Education, and Physician Contracting. She currently
services as the Chairman of the NAMSS Conference
Committee and prior to that as the Chairman of
the NAMSS Education Committee.

networking session on Tuesday morning is
titled Becoming a Volunteer: An Introduction
to Volunteering with NAMSS, a session
designed to inform NAMSS members about
various volunteer opportunities and how to
achieve your volunteer goals.
