Resilience Through Community

Undoubtedly, the greatest tests of our communal resilience were the devastating attacks of September 11
and the natural disaster of Superstorm Sandy. The firm emerged from both as a stronger organization,
proud of the helping hands we were able to offer our larger community during the crises.

Superstorm Sandy
OppenheimerFunds' headquarters at 225 Liberty Street
offers sweeping vistas of New York Harbor and Lady Liberty.
But on the night of October 29, 2012, its proximity to the
Hudson River and Upper Bay of the Atlantic Ocean placed it
squarely in the path of an epic, once-in-a-century hurricane:
Superstorm Sandy.
That night the storm overtook lower Manhattan, filling
streets, subway stations, and building lobbies and knocking
out power and other essential services. Like many of its
lower-Manhattan neighbors who were forced to move
their operations, OppenheimerFunds temporarily relocated
its employees to the firm's disaster recovery site in Carlstadt,
New Jersey, while repairs were being made downtown.
At the height of the storm, the firm's priority was the
safety of its staff. Once that was assured, employees
mobilized and enlisted the support of offices across the
country, including Denver, to ensure business as usual and
ongoing client service.
When the storm had passed, it was clear that surrounding
communities along the East Coast - and in the New York
metropolitan area - had been severely impacted. In the
days following, OppenheimerFunds' parent company,
MassMutual, announced a donation to the American Red
Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
That December, nearly 200 OppenheimerFunds
employees headed to New York City's coastal communities
of Sea Bright and Breezy Point to volunteer and help rebuild.
The firm also made a donation to local organizations involved
in the reconstruction of these communities.
"I cannot think of a better way for all of us to live
the OppenheimerFunds core values than to be of service
to our colleagues, friends, and neighbors who continue to
suffer from Hurricane Sandy," said CEO Bill Glavin in his
message to employees.

Remembering September 11th
OppenheimerFunds is listed in the 9/11 Museum as an inaugural donor, and also
gave during the firm's 60th anniversary year. The message below from Art Steinmetz
to employees was emailed on September 9, 2016.

Dear Colleagues,
This Sunday marks the 15th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
The World Trade Center was the New York home of OppenheimerFunds
from 1987 until that day.
In recognition of this anniversary we are placing a memorial image of
the Twin Towers on the 12th floor in New York, overlooking the WTC
memorial. The memorial below prompts reflection on what was lost.
It is my hope that the image we are hanging prompts reflection on the
strength and resilience of the people who work for our company.
We will never forget.
