rr+ d +d Rho 1030 DURST Technology Spotlight: ISA Expo For the industry at large, the ISA Expo has always been the kick-starter for the year ahead. Much like the robin being a harbinger of spring, a successful and bustling ISA Expo has often signaled the approach of a good “wide-format season” in the months ahead. And as we reported last issue, the 2013 version of the ISA Expo held in Las Vegas boasted some great numbers: Nearly 600 exhibitors, a soldout exhibit ﬂoor comprising 200,000 square feet, and more than 19,500 attendees (approaching the event’s record, reports ISA) in search of new technologies as well as educational and networking opportunities. “One of our slogans this year was ‘Signs Mean Business,’” says Lori Anderson, president and CEO of the International Sign Association. “Each year, we hear about business deals begun at Sign Expo, and new alliances forged … I have every reason to believe that Sign Expo 2013 will lead to greater opportunities for our members and attendees.” For those of you unable to attend the event – or perhaps you were there but never quite made it around 28 THE BIG PICTURE JUNE/JULY 2013 the entire ﬂoor – we provide just some of the digital-print-related products and technologies that were introduced at the show on the pages that follow. Next year’s ISA International Sign Expo will take place April 23-26, 2014, in Orlando. Durst Image Technology (durstus.com) introduced two new printers, the Rho 1012 and Rho 1030. Based on the company’s Rho 1000 platform, both printers: are equipped with Durst’s Quadro Array printhead technology; oﬀer an 8-ft printing width; are CMYK standard (with optional light cyan and light magenta, or process color addition – orange/green or orange/violet); have integrated ink tanks with 10-litre capacity/ink (reﬁ llable during the printing process), Durst Rho software, and an external Caldera RIP server. Both can be conﬁgured with full corrugate and roll-to-sheet options. The Rho 1012 utilizes Quadro Array 12M printheads (12-pL drop size), can print at speeds up to 5000 sq ft/ hr, and oﬀers a top resolution of 1200 dpi. The Rho 1030 uses Quadro Array 30M printheads (30-pL drop size) and boasts production speeds up to 10,000 sq ft/hr and a top resolution of 600 dpi. The Rho 1030 is available in three variants: basic printer only; ¾ Automation (includes stacker and auto registration table on feed side); and Full Automation (includes a Mirus feeder and stacker). In addition, the company introduced its new 10-picoliter Variodrop printing technology.
