Five hundred-plus Esko users, partners, and media gathered in sunny Charlotte,
North Carolina, in May for two-and-a-half days of hands-on workshops, in-depth
product roadmaps, and a visit to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Key snapshots included:
* Sneak peeks of new tech: the Kongsberg C66, a 126 x 189-inch heavy-duty
flatbed cutter; roll-to-roll automation options; a modular robotics system; and more.
* Esko President Udo Panenka talked about the new consumer behavior: It's
"me-centered."
* Outstanding packaging can without a doubt drive brand growth. One case
study displayed a coffee producer whose packaging changed every day, featuring
that morning's newspaper headlines.
* Tim Sixta, director of product management at MediaBeacon, shared results
from a survey of 150 brand executives: Ninety percent said the omnichannel
experience "is necessary to delight customers," and 85 percent said they planned to
increase investment in creating omnichannel experiences this year.

Reliving the 2017 Sign Expo

Some 20,000 sign guys and gals gathered for the first day of the 2017 ISA Sign
Expo in April at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas. The rows of
red and black carpets were as familiar as ever, but something was different this
year. As we spoke to dozens of shop owners, industry suppliers, and global thought
leaders, it became clear that it's the sign guys and gals themselves who are
beginning to change.
We saw a crowd of people who are ready to adapt and innovate, finding new
ways to maximize the value of visual communication. They're embracing the cloud
and pushing workflow suppliers to experiment with new ideas. They're topping
their facilities with solar panels and insisting on corporate social responsibility and
sustainability. They're showing interest in hiring, marketing to, and even learning
from millennials. They're wrapping and printing on everything: skateboard wheels,
nursing pods, shoes, kitchen appliances, and of course, textiles.

SGIA reports the show floor is sold out, with
more than 540 companies exhibiting graphic,
