To get a different vibe, they scoured consumer havens like IKEA and home improvement stores for bright pieces that would play well with the neutral wood tones they’d envisioned for the restaurant’s shell. Browsing the bins, they found the building blocks of their design: objects with the right color or shape, such as bright flower pots, sleekly contemporary chairs and functional cooking utensils. As soon as they toted their treasures to their office and saw the final delivery truck pull away, Futur2’s designers and a group of artists hired for this project set to work on the task of radically re-concepting these anonymous pieces and other bits of modern consumerism into design gold. This collaborative team analyzed the possibilities of each item. They grouped and regrouped what they’d purchased with found objects. That’s how they noticed that 28 HOSPITALITYSTYLE.COM / FALL 2012
