Traveling Your Way
Throughout the years, I've been fortunate to experience travel
from many different perspectives. While traveling with friends and
family can provide an opportunity to enjoy shared memories, solo
travel offers you the chance to stretch your limits - physically,
emotionally and even spiritually. When you travel alone (or even
solo, but part of a tour group), you are more likely to engage with
the locals and make new friends with others on your tour.
I love strolling around and talking with locals. For me, that's
part of the fun of travel. That was how I explored Budapest when
I spent two days there on my own. Each day, I walked around the
city - lingering in shops and admiring the historic architecture
for as long as I liked. Then, I'd take a break for coffee or lunch. I
really enjoyed being able to soak in as much of the city as I could.
Sometimes you have to push yourself and explore. But when you
do, it can yield some of the most rewarding travel experiences
you'll ever have.
When I travel by myself, deciding what I want to do before I get
there is key. It's a good idea to choose specific attractions and local
tours, arrange transportation and research restaurants ahead of

Our "Cities We Love" feature on page 32 highlights Barcelona, Spain. When I visited there, I fell in love. The
uniqueness of the architecture of Antoni Guadi was awe-inspiring. Park Quell is one of my favorite places. Here
you'll see firsthand Guadi's gift of creating art through landscaping. It was such a vibrant and whimsical
environment. I especially enjoyed walking along La Rambla. You can sit and enjoy lunch in one of the cafes
along the walkway or munch your way through the Mercat de la Boqueria, where many vendors showcase
cheeses, meats, produce and other locally-made items.
If a blissful island retreat in the South Pacific is your cup of green tea, don't miss our "Island Idyll" feature on
page 8. Our Oceania Cruises feature, "Savory Sailings" on page 20 will appeal to cruisers and foodies alike.
Another type of cruising adventure, "Incredible India" awaits readers on page 26 and highlights the cultural
gems you'll find along the Ganges River.
Fall is the time of the year many of us like to get our spook on, and Universal Studios Hollywood Horror
Nights is a great place to do that. That was one of my kids' favorite family vacations. It's amazing how they can
create such a scary experience in the midst of a theme park. Check out "Travel Buzz" on page 6 for even more
exciting attractions this year's event will hold.
