Planning a trip usually boils down to
making three basic selections: activities,
preferred climate and budget. Florida is
the trifecta for vacations. With pleasant
weather year-round, the sunshine state
is an appealing destination.
When it comes to providing a variety
of activities, you'll be hard pressed to
find another state with as many
options. From its well-known theme
parks and beaches to its hidden historic
gems and cultural attractions, Florida
offers entertainment at every turn with
options to fit every budget.
Florida is also ideal for multi-part
vacations. Want to play at theme parks
and relax on a cruise? Start in Orlando
and visit Walt Disney World Resort,
then stop by the Kennedy Space Center
on your way to Port Canaveral. Or you
could fly into Tampa to check out the
animals and adventures at Busch
Gardens before boarding a cruise ship
bound for Mexico and the Caribbean.
Each area of Florida has something
unique to fit your vacation style.
EAST COAST
Florida's eastern coastline is an
action-packed place-from surfers
riding the waves at Cocoa Beach to
fast cars careening around the
Daytona International Speedway to
rockets blasting off into space at the
Kennedy Space Center. You can even
venture back in time by exploring
St. Augustine's 17th-century Castillo
de San Marcos. The fort's weapons
demonstrations, well-preserved
structures, period-dressed volunteers
and 3D virtual tour bring to life the
embattled history of the country's
oldest city.
Amidst all the exciting and historic
attractions are beautiful havens to relax
in the sun. Charming Amelia Island, at
the very northern edge of Florida's East
Coast, is uniquely suited to active
relaxation-you can even go horseback
riding on the beach.
GULF COAST
Florida's Gulf Coast slows down a
bit, as the waves and the pace are
gentler here. The gulf is known for its
Castillo de San Marcos National Monument at
