The Canadian automotive aftermarket continues to experience positive growth, with retail sales totaling more than $17.9 billion in 2007 (up 7.0 percent from 2006). Almost two-fifths of total sales (35.1 percent) were attributed to Ontario alone ($6.3 billion). Total distributor parts sales in Canada exceeded $5.5 billion wholesale in 2007 (up 7.0 percent from 2006), while supplier parts sales totaled $4.4 billion (also up 7.0 percent from the previous year). The number of aftermarket installer and retailer establishments has changed in recent years. While the number of parts and accessories wholesale outlets experienced a compounded annual decline of 3.1 percent since 2000, the number of parts and accessories retailers establishments experienced a 1.9 percent increase during the same reporting period. Of all the services performed on vehicles in Canada, oil changes were the most common maintenance and repair task, with 59.9 million jobs performed in 2008. Other commonly performed services were tires (27.9 million), wiper blades (17.6 million) and air filters (11.8 million). In 2008, more than seven out of 10 maintenance and repair jobs (73.0 percent) were done professionally, while nearly three out of 10 (27.0 percent) were done by consumers.
