PARTING SHOT BABAK TAFRESHI The Milky Way - with its fine collection of Messier objects - arches over Latemar, a mountain group straddling the border between Trentino and Alto Adige (South Tyrol) in northern Italy. The Sagittarius Star Cloud (M24), the nebulae M16 and M17, and the open star cluster M23 gleam at lower right. Latemar marks the western end of the Dolomites, a stunning mountain range that stretches across northeastern Italy, boasting 18 peaks that rise above 3,000 meters (9,800 feet).
