Image processing enhances color differences (right), revealing detail that exists but is not obvious in the true-color version. MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE The perspective of an artist brings us an entirely new way to see Jupiter. Amateur astrophotographer Seán Doran shares his process: "This perijove I was really getting into the groove of getting at most of the detail and color variation present in Gerald Eichstädt's source images. I was surprised to see the extent to which the images still held up aesthetically without losing too much of the subtleties to overly harsh filtering and blending. It is a fine line to walk but the reward is worth it." s k y a n d t e l e s c o p e . c o m * M AY 2 0 1 9 17http://www.skyandtelescope.com
