Nebula Deep-Dive GLORIOUS VISION I sketched the Rosette Nebula in all its Hα glory as I saw it through my 30-inch scope. I wasn't exaggerating that the amount of detail is phenomenal and is way beyond what's possible to see with an O III filter. Because of limited observing time, I sketched the main nebulous areas at the " eyepiece " of the night vision device, and then referred to a photo taken with a 12-inch scope equipped with a PVS-14 + Hα filter to add the details - all of which I'd detected in my 30-inch. Among many other things, you can see the southern part of the G205.5+0.5 loop at the top (north and northeast) of the Rosette. For me, the best part is the fine detail of the dark nebulae zig-zagging along the western side of the central opening - wow! North is upper right. 26 MARCH 2025 * SKY & TELESCOPE
