Wrap Shot West Side Story (1961) A 65mm Mitchell FC camera is sent aloft on a crane during the filming of the classic musical West Side Story, directed by Robert Wise and Jerome Robbins (together at camera, closely observing a rehearsal) and shot in Super Panavision 70 by Daniel L. Fapp, ASC. The cinematographer won an Academy Award for his expert camerawork. He also earned Oscar nominations for five other pictures: Desire Under the Elms, The Five Pennies, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, Ice Station Zebra and Marooned. West Side Story amassed a total of 10 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director - the latter honor shared by Wise and Robbins. - David E.
