tographers and unit production managers,
coordinating their photographic needs for
upcoming projects. In addition, I try to
convey the needs of the cameraman to our
research and development director for both
new product and any re-design of existing

Langan is also active in the stu¬
dent film field. He and his wife, Cynthia, live
in Simi Valley.

Panavision in August 1972, graduated to
supervisor of the department in 1974, and
became camera department representative
in 1978. He was named supervisor of the
camera rental department in 1982, and in
1987 advanced to his present position as
sales director.

David L. Quaid, ASC, whose re¬
searches into the technological side of

cinematographers. Since then more than
500 cinematographers and persons in re¬
lated occupations have joined the organi¬
zation, which represents the film and video
community in all 10 of Canada's provices.
Quaid, incidentally, has recently

Three innovative

new

lighting

systems were demonstrated at the Apri 129
dinner meeting at the ASC Clubhouse.
Frieder Hochheim presented the
line of high output flicker-free, dimmable
fluorescent systems produced by Kino Flo,
Inc. These include lightweight "location"

lights, 12-volt DC units, modular lighting
systems for rear transmission blue screen
and translite applications, and a new line
of color correct daylight lamps.
Dick Hart of Xenotech, Inc.,
demonstrated the Britelight 1000, 2000,

4000, and the weatherproof Britelight 7000.
The 75-watt hand held Maxi Beam Xenon
was also shown and there was a discussion
of the full spectrum color properties of Xe¬
non. The frame rate controversy was also
discussed.
Dedo Weigert, of Dedotec USA,

cinematography are well known in the in¬
dustry, recently conducted a Film-Video
Workshop in Toronto for the Canadian So¬
ciety of Cinematographers. The subject, on
which Quaid is the acknowledged expert,
dealt with photographing with fluorescents
and other mixed light sources.
"Rosco sponsored it, in con¬
junction with P. S. Production Services, and
we had 180 pros there," Quaid reports. "I
had a great time with the members."
The CSC was founded in 1957 by
a group of Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa
