ther applied to achieve effects not previ¬

ously possible by any method. The process
is interactive, in that the operator and the
client can see what is being achieved on a
high-resolution monitor screen, and make
fine interactive decisions and adjustments.
Video technology plays no part in
this process. Material for manipulation at
CFC is typically provided on 35mm
interpositive, and the results are delivered
as a 35mm negative. It is also possible to
input images from digital video systems,
HDTV, or computer graphics systems, and
combine them with each other and with film

images.

tors, used in conjunction with equipment
(designed and built by CFC) for reading im¬
ages at high resolution from film and re¬
cording finished images back onto film.
Effects that can be produced at CFC range
from straighforward compositing to di¬
mensional distortions, movement tracking,
colorization and color modification. An
electronic paint system enables hand ad¬

justment of images and touch-up work.
When a requirement cannot be met with
one of CFC's existing software tools,
something completely new can be created.

Grip Kit
Egripment USA has attempted to
eliminate problems caused by difficult
angles with the introduction of their
new Grip Kit, which consists of two offset
arms (one male and one female
eurocoupling). The arms are constructed of
duraluminum, which combines strength and
stability with the advantage of an extremely

18 pounds, without standard offset arm).
The arms are connected by stainless steel
rods and have a weight loading capability
of 40 kilograms (89 lbs.). The kit also in¬

rewritable videodisc recorder, the VDRV1000 LaserRecorder.
The LaserRecorder

uses

laser

technology to change the way broadcast
professionals edit, record, and play back.

new

rewritable recorder allows faster

editing, and a higher
level of media reliability than currently
available. It provides near-instant non-linear
access and the most precise frame-byframe editing in a recording device.

The LaserRecorder offers
