Although the budget of Felicia's
Journey (approximately $10 million)
pushed indie filmmakers Egoyan and
Sarossy closer to the mainstream, the
film is not a departure from the style of
their previous work, but rather a mature
extension of that style. Author Trevor's
source material allowed Egoyan to
practice his favored narrative technique
gradually revealing characters' true
natures through flashbacks - and the
British Isles locations were ideally suited
to the filmmaker's preferred format,
anamorphic widescreen (which he'd
previously employed in The Adjuster and
The Sweet Hereaftei). "Anamorphic is
an ideal format," Egoyan maintains. "It
allows you to get a really richly saturated
negative - you're making absolute full
use of the negative."
