underexposure, where we can see all
the way up to traces of the #1 ring.
Pull-Process
The
pull process on this stock
of the strength back to
the blacks. At one stop underex¬
posed, we have only the slightest hint
of milk, and the grain is still solid. At
two stops under, we have milk and
some
grain, but it's not as objection¬
able as the normal processing at this

Vision 800T 5289
Normal Process
In the
ever-complex tradeoff
grain and blacks, the
5289 holds up remarkably well for an
800-speed film. Although generally
grainier than the 500T 5279, with
normal exposure and processing the
800T produces an image comparable
image to the 500T; the blacks are only
slightly less tight, almost undetectably so. However, the stock's
shortcomings become apparent
when we underexpose. At one stop
under, the image is almost as milky
and grainy as 5279 at two stops
under. At two stops under, milk is
quite apparent, and grain is apparent
of
speed
nice smoothness. Two stops
in the mids and blacks. The stock
performs beautifully with overexpo¬
sure, exhibiting sharp contrast, vivid
colors and deep blacks. Grain is
dramatically reduced at this end of
the exposure wedge.
What is most impressive is the
overall sharpness of this stock. At 800
ASA, the film's sweet spot is near the
normal to one-stop-over region, and
I can make out detail in the #1 ring in
-

little softer chroma than normal,
but very
pleasing.
Pull-processing only slightly
diminished the sharpness. Overall, it
behaved similarly along the exposure
brackets, only it wasn't quite as sharp
in that sweet spot region between
normal and one stop under.
