A tribute to

Conrad Hall, ASC and a special focus on
Elvis Presley will be among the highlights
at the sixth annual

Long Beach. Hall, who has been nomi¬
nated for nine Academy Awards and
won two (for American Beauty and Butch
Cassidy and the Sundance Kid], will be
honored on the festival's closing night
with screenings of In Cold Blood and
Butch Cassidy.
A special edition of Presley's 1971
concert film Elvis, That's the Way It Is,
which has been completely re-edited
using original footage of the singer's
famous 1970 Las Vegas concerts, will be
screened on Sept. 22. Commissioned by
Turner Entertainment Company, the film
features many of the same performances
featured in the original version, as well
as Cinemascope concert footage and
behind-the-scenes footage that were
culled from more than 50,000' of original
negative and 12 original 16-track audio
masters, all recently discovered. The
focus on Presley will continue that
evening with screenings of Bye Bye
Birdie and Viva Las Vegas.
The festival will open Sept. 20
with a screening of a new print of The
Bridge on the Biver Kwai, which won
seven Academy Awards. Subsequent
screenings will include Blue Velvet, The
Elephant Man, The Diary of Anne Frank,
Swiss Family Bobinson, Blazing Saddles,
Cheyenne Autumn and Quji (Miracle), an
action comedy written and directed by
and starring Jackie Chan.
