says Bob Beitcher, president of TCS.
"We're fully committed to the industry's
future here and feel that there is
tremendous
a
opportunity for Thomson
and Technicolor to continue to grow their
postproduction businesses organically."
Schloss notes that the model for
the
facility comes out of a reassess¬
healthy facility looks like.
"What's required is a lot different from
when John [Dowdell] and I started in the
post game, and even what was germane
in the late 1990s," he says. "Many of the
established facilities have huge invest¬
ments in visual effects and compositing
technologies. In the facility model, it no
longer works because the overhead is so
immense and you're competing against
your own clients."
Instead, says Schloss, Techni¬
color plans to tailor its offerings to
providing services that most companies
can't afford to get into. "We're providing
talent and technologies that are not
cost-effective unless you have a very
wide variety of clients to draw on. We
plan to be a force in the commercial side
of the market; another market we hope
to impact is cinema advertising, as well

back to film. The handshake between
the lab and the
digital world has to be
really, really tight. The only way to do
that was to integrate them. To have the
biggest lab in this market, which is Tech¬
nicolor, marry digital and chemical helps
to create a new paradigm.
"There is a very coordinated
approach to sharing technologies, ideas
and information
so
that clients

concludes.
