using computer software to determine blast forces and design structures to
prevent progressive collapse. After one of our recent military building
projects was designed, the new anti-terrorism require- ments came into
effect. We had to take a fresh look at our design and adjust for the
Department of Defense's Unified Facilities Criteria: Minimum
Anti-terrorism Standards for Buildings. Now we have transferred our
knowledge of protective design tactics for military facilities to many of
our civilian projects and customized the criteria for specific project
