ThE AcuhO-I cONSTRucTION AND RENOvATION SuRvEy was originally created in 1993 by Jim Grimm, former president of AcuhO-I, with assistance from colleagues at the university of Florida, to assist institutional decision makers with planning for their future housing needs. Now in an electronic, web-based format, the construction and Renovation Survey is a biennial data collection effort by the Association of college and university housing Officers–International (AcuhO-I) and MGT of America, Inc. The survey is distributed to institutional representatives throughout the united States, as well as internationally. The article offers a brief history of the survey, a description of the instrument, data collection results from the 2008 survey, comparison trends from previous survey iterations, and a discussion of the implications of this information.

INTRODUCTION
The Construction and Renovation Survey is a biennial data collection effort conducted by the Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I) and MGT of America, Inc. The survey is completed by chief housing officers, or their designee, at higher education institutions throughout the United States, as well as internationally, and the data provide comparisons used by institutions to assist in planning for housing construction and renovation. The following sections offer a brief history of the survey, a description of the instrument, data collection results, and a discussion of the implications of this information. The ACUHO-I Construction and Renovation Survey was originally created in 1993 by Jim Grimm, former president of ACUHO-I, with assistance from Norbert Dunkel and colleagues at the University of Florida. The survey instrument was published in the Talking Stick as a means of distribution. Chief housing officers were instructed to tear out the survey, complete it, and return it to Grimm with project drawings. With each iteration, the survey was modified and improved to ensure that the data collected were valuable and ap-
