highlight the cultural signiﬁcance of place, community, and spirituality
among Native students in the residential setting. The researchers suggest
institutions of higher education as natural and vital partners in acknowledging and valuing this often overlooked and marginalized population.
Much appreciation is due the countless volunteers who make The
Journal of College and University Student Housing possible. This year there
were three review teams led by outstanding associate editors Denise Anderson, Diane "DP" Porter-Roberts, and Jamie Penven. Their expertise
and leadership of our review teams provides a seamless and educational
experience for authors submitting manuscripts to The Journal. We have
also recently added a fourth associate editor to the editorial team to assist
with the process of transitioning to an online publication management
process. I welcome Sarah Gordon as she moves into this new role. I also
appreciate the efforts of each reviewer who carefully evaluated each manuscript, offering constructive feedback for each manuscript read.
Diane "Daisy" Waryold and Pam Schreiber lend their expertise to the
process by reading each manuscript and developing thoughtful discussion
questions for each piece. The publication would not be possible without
the critical eye and hard work of Christine Freeman who provides ﬁnal
review of each manuscript before formatting each article for the publisher.
Camille Perlman from the ACUHO-I Central Ofﬁce is an invaluable part
of the process, lending her expertise and guidance as we make our way
through the publication process. Sarah McDowell's graphic design work
provides readers with an appealing and polished publication.
Our work does not happen in a vacuum, a silo, or a single department. Whether practitioner, faculty, researcher, or external partner, we
must rely on each other to do our work. Collaboration is at the heart of
what we do, and true collaboration is not possible without authentic relationships. As you reﬂect on each manuscript in this volume, I challenge
you to reﬂect on the professional relationships that make your work possible. From designing more inclusive housing options to understanding
and supporting lonely students in our communities, what relationships
allow you to best do this work? Many of us believe that living in community (and all that entails) is an essential part of the on-campus housing
experience. I would ask: How do we practice living in community?
