Letter from the Editor
I would also like to take a moment to welcome our new ACUHO-I
Knowledge Enhancement Director and our Executive Board liaison,
Kirsten Kennedy. We look forward to working with her as we continue
strengthening and enhancing scholarship in the field.
We have started a new process for developing discussion questions
for each manuscript and want to recognize Delton Gordon, assistant director for residential life at Oklahoma State University, and his team of
dedicated staff who carefully read each manuscript and created insightful questions. Christine Freeman, the copy editor for this edition, offers
critical expertise and support in finalizing the publication. Camille
Perlman from the ACUHO-I home office works tirelessly to ensure a
quality process and product for readers. Ellen Gray's graphic design
work is an essential final stage for publication.
Higher education is changing. Some may say it is evolving to meet
the needs of a new generation, while others may say it is regressing to
meet the demands of outside constituents. What is certain is change.
But with this pressure to change, the core of what we do-educate students-cannot falter. We will continue to greet students and families
on move-in day, walk with residents through life's ups and downs, challenge behavior, and encourage growth. We will have intentional interactions, create fair and inclusive policies, and support the academic
mission of the institution-all while balancing a budget, maintaining
aging facilities, and satisfying every room assignment request! And
though it may sometimes feel we are doing this work in a vacuum, or
on an island, we are in it together. We can rely on each other and the
valuable research and work presented in this publication to drive innovation, to weather the storms, and to educate successful students.
