APPENDIX A
Grade point average (GPA) calculations are determined from calculations of numeric values
assigned to the grade achieved for each paper (University of Otago, n.d.). The values range from
0 for a fail grade, 1 for a C-, 2 for a C, through to 8 for an A and 9 for an A+ or higher. An average
is obtained by averaging the points accrued across all papers taken by each student, applying a
weight for the number of points each paper is worth.
