Vice presidents, directors, and student affairs staff should recognize this phenomenon and adjust department practices accordingly. Esther Lee from the City University of Hong Kong and Dean Preddy from North Flinders International House in Australia share their thoughts during the Global Housing Summit. has aggressively worked to bridge research and practice as they forge a global profession. ACPA has sought to strengthen international research and develop cultural relationships with scholars and practitioners from abroad – not to increase membership, but to improve the profession. These efforts have included partnerships with ACUHO-I. In 2006, ACPA offered its first cultural study tour, to Ghana, followed by another to Ghana in 2008 and plans for a return in 2010 (a tour every other year). In 2008, participants visited six regions in the country, gathering information from university professors and administrators from the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. ACPA also joined ACUI and NASPA in 2006 on a study tour to Australia and followed this with another joint tour to South Africa, in 2007, with ACUI, ACUHO-I, and NASPA. Today ACPA-College Student Educators International has developed new relations with 21 different countries and has assumed a leadership role in advancing the global profession. In 2007-08, ACPA restructured its governing board and has re-committed to working beside country-specific associations, as well as international associations, to aid in student learning. resPondIng to needs together Student affairs and housing offices increasingly understand the value of a global perspective for staffs and students. This global perspective brings more knowledge and more viewpoints to the table, which leads to better decisions, programs, and services for all students. It is especially important for student affairs offices to work closely with one another to provide for the needs of students from other countries.
