a World of difference a view of the aCUho-i China stUdy toUr and global hoUsing sUmmit throUgh the eyes, and lenses, of those who were there. To participate in the ACUHO-I China Study Tour as well as the Global Housing Summit, attendees traveled by plane, train, foot, ferry, bus, taxi, tram, rickshaw, and more. They covered more than 7,000 miles crisscrossing the country, not to mention the thousands of miles they likely traveled from their homes just to reach the starting point in Hong Kong. They flew from cities like Perth, Ballarat, and Flinders in Australia. They made their way from Edinburgh, Scotland, and Sheffield, England. They left their campuses in large metropolises such as New York City and small college towns like Oberlin, Ohio. Then, when the Global Housing Summit began, additional professionals – 85 in total – from South Africa, Singapore, Qatar, Hong Kong, Canada, Australia, and England strengthened the international flavor even further. Together, these college and university housing professionals discovered what being an international association truly means. Just as the group learned of housing operations in China and Hong Kong, individuals shared challenges and solutions from their own countries. These conversations opened eyes and minds, delivering surprises both in the ways things were different and in the ways things were the same on separate campuses. The sights, sounds, and stories from China and Hong Kong will stay with the attendees for years to come. To share that experience, the Talking Stick asked participants to share their thoughts and photographs of the experience. A sampling of those can be found on the following pages.
