Talking STick
As students settle into the residence halls and personalize their new spaces, one particular segment of the population will be making a decision of epic proportions: that is, whether or not they should hang up their prized “Star Wars” poster in a prominent place. Yes, even if they have not yet inherited the earth, the geeks are bringing their interests with them to college in a host of
computer, board, and role-playing games; science fiction; graphic novels; cult movies; and television shows. In these and other geeky pursuits, students might have known and built community with fellow geeks at home. But when they enter the college world they must start fresh in their efforts to find Magic the Gathering players, Anime enthusiasts, or Dungeon Masters or guild members with whom they can connect.
