Threat Assessment Standards Available
A 2010 campus safety risk analysis, drafted in the wake of the Virginia Tech shootings, has been adopted as an American National Standard. A Risk Analysis Standard for Natural and Man-Made Hazards to Higher Education was developed by the American Society of Mechanical EngineersInnovative Technologies Institute, LLC (ASME-ITI) and deals primarily with using threat assessment teams to identify problematic behavior in individuals. The threats examined in the standards range from person-on-person to potential threats against institutional buildings and infrastructure systems. The standards also act as a benchmark for best practices in future threat assessment. The risk analysis is available for institutional purchase at http://www.asme.org/ products/books/a-risk-analysis-standard-for-natural-and-man-made-.

CUBO to Host UK Study Tour
Recently the world tuned into the city of London and its surrounding areas to enjoy the spectacle of the Olympic Games. Come next year, the spotlight may not be quite as bright, but the enthusiasm will remain high for the 2013 study tour of campuses across the United Kingdom, organized by the College & University Business Officers (CUBO) in conjunction with their association’s annual conference. Scheduled to begin June 25 at the University of Edinburgh and conclude on July 3 at the University of Essex, the trip will offer amazing insight into the workings at some of the world’s oldest and most revered campuses as well as other cultural highlights including a behind-the-scenes tour of London’s Olympic Stadium. Campuses tentatively scheduled include Queen Margaret University, University of Edinburgh, University of York, University of Sheffield, University of Salford, University of Liverpool, University of Oxford, Imperial College London, and the University of Essex. The CUBO 2013 conference will be held July 3-5. More information regarding study tour costs and registration will be available later this year. Watch for electronic communication from ACUHO-I as well as the CUBO website at cubo.org.uk for more information as it is posted.

Presidential Climate Commitment Report Released
The American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment commemorated its fifth year of existence with a report titled Celebrating Five Years of Climate Leadership. This large-scale sustainability initiative currently sports commitments from almost 700 colleges and universities that have vowed to support sustainability on their campuses through a combination of teaching and action, such as changing curricula to reflect and make students aware of sustainability issues in their community and reaching out to local communities to raise awareness. According to the report, since the ACUPCC’s inception, 30 percent of the nation’s colleges and universities have committed, therefore reducing gross greenhouse emissions by 25 percent. Almost 10,000 sustainability-focused courses now exist at nearly 200 of the member institutions, according to the report, and a goal of reducing carbon emissions by 50 percent by the year 2022 is currently in place. The entire report can be accessed at http:// www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org/files/documents/acupcc_5yr_report_spreads.pdf.
