John Capaccio, associate vice president of student affairs, is retiring in August of 2013 after 35 years
of service. During his time at HSU he has served as the director of housing, interim associate vice
president of enrollment management and housing, and director of academic resources. In
addition, while serving in these various roles, he also had responsibility for campus emergency
management, parking, student life, and the children’s center.

JOHN CAPACCIO

Capaccio has two bachelor’s degrees (economics and zoology) from the University of California,
Santa Barbara, and a Master of Education degree from Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
He has served on numerous ACUHO-I committees and has chaired the ACUHO-I Annual
Conference and Exposition Host Committee twice.

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Jack Collins will retire from his director of university housing position in June of 2013. He has
served in this role for 15 years. Collins’ career in student housing spans 40 years. He started out as
a residence hall director at Mississippi State and then moved to Temple University in Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. He then became the director of housing at John Carroll University in University
Heights, Ohio, then moved on to Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and then finally to the
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

JACK COLLINS

Collins has been a member of several professional associations, including Great Lakes
Association of College and University Housing Officers (GLACUHO), American College Personnel
Association (ACPA), Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA), and the
Association of College and University Housing Officers-International (ACUHO-I). He has been
active in ACUHO-I (where he served as president in 2003-04) and GLACUHO his entire career.
Collins has an associate of arts degree in philosophy from St. Charles College in Baltimore,
Maryland; a bachelor’s degree in history from Ohio Dominican College in Columbus; a Master of
Education degree in college student personnel from Bowling Green State University in Ohio; and a
doctorate in educational administration from Kent State University in Ohio. Additionally, he was
an instructor in the higher education program at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He was
awarded the ACUHO-I James C. Grimm Leadership and Service Award in 2006.
