Lake Forest College will open a new 62,000-square-foot residence hall for 233 students in the fall.
By demolishing and replacing Moore Hall, the project provides four times as many beds as the
previous building. In 2010, the Scion Group LLC conducted a study of the campus housing status
at Lake Forest, which convinced Balfour Beatty to partner and develop this $15 million project.
Architect firm Solomon Cordwell Buenz and Walsh Construction helped design and build the hall.

Cost: Part of a larger $201 million project including residence halls and apartments
The new Mercer Court Apartments, totaling five buildings and 550,000 square feet, will replace the
previous 40-year-old building, Mercer Hall, as part of a larger $201 million construction project at
the University of Washington. The apartments will house 900 students in two- to six-person suites
with kitchens and furnished living rooms. The landscape includes a three-quarter acre urban farm
that UW Farm will use to grow and sell produce. Mercer Court will also have an outdoor plaza, sky
lounges, rooftop terraces, community lounges, indoor bike storage, and a café.

The 238,715-square-foot East Village – Baylor’s third residential facility built since 2004 –
features two four-story residential communities for 700 students of all classifications and a
30,000-square-foot dining commons. A variety of student room styles will provide options for
students of the Engineering & Computer Science Residential College and the Science & Health
Living-Learning Center who will occupy these buildings. East Village lobbies will create a warm
living-room feeling for student gathering and interaction, leading to faculty/staff, faculty-inresidence, and resident chaplain offices, as well as classrooms, recreation rooms, group study
rooms, and libraries. As an institution committed to excellence in Christian higher education,
Baylor is integrating various spiritual elements in and on the buildings and on the grounds of the
beautifully landscaped courtyards. Planned for LEED certification, East Village will allow nearly
44 percent of all Baylor students to live on campus.

Cost: $25 million

Trinity College has started construction on a new student housing community designed by EYP
Architecture and Engineering and developed by Kirchhoff Campus Properties. There will be
five sets of adjoining townhouses, housing a total of 352 students and faculty. Each townhouse
will have three floors with up to nine single rooms, a living room, kitchen, dining area, three
bathrooms, washer and dryer, and front and back porches. The townhouses will be built to
LEED Gold standards and will be handicap accessible. There will also be a reserved suite for
multipurpose events and academic work.
