The 304-unit, 622-room
neighborhood has been
awarded a 4-star rating from
Austin Energy Green Building
(AEGB) and a LEED Gold
certification for its innovation
in energy efficiency, resource
utilization, and sustainability.
Energy conservation strategies
include, but are not limited
to, hydronic heating and
cooling, recycled materials, and
low-flow fixtures that use less
water than average fixtures.
To maximize natural light and
ventilation, 75 percent of the
units face north or south.

Reno, Nevada
Projected Opening: August 2015 * Cost: $42.5 million
As more students have asked to live on campus for their first year, UNR
began building their tenth residence hall. The new five-story building
will house 400 students, primarily first-year students, in two- and fourbedroom suites and will earn a Silver LEED rating. The residence hall
will focus heavily on student health and wellness while creating a safe,
comfortable environment for students and staff.
University of Iowa

Iowa City, Iowa
Projected Opening: August 2015 * Cost: $53 million
A call for additional student housing prompted the University of Iowa to
begin construction on a 501-bed residence hall, the first new residence
hall since 1968. The rooms will consist of pods of 26 to 28 students,
with each pod having its own study space and bathroom. The building
will also include a multipurpose room with a performance space, sports
grille, seminar room, tutoring and group study areas, and common
kitchen areas, all tied in with the concept of a living-learning community.
the University of alabama at birmingham

Birmingham, Alabama
Projected Opening: August 2015 * Cost: $46 million
Responding to an increase in student enrollment, UAB began building
a new residence hall for first-year students that will add 714 beds in an
eight-story, four-wing tower with a combined space of 217,000 square
feet. The building will include a storm shelter, on-site laundry, and
several common spaces on each floor and a large community room on
the ground floor.

Kansas State University broke ground on their first residence hall since
1967. The 129,000-square-foot hall will be named Wefald Hall after the
university's 12th president, Jon Wefald, and will house 540 students, with
apartments dedicated for staff. It will include academic spaces and will
satisfy the growing need for student housing on campus.
