what's the first thing you do when you get into the office each morning?
I always try to make sure that I'm catching up with my team and seeing
what's on our respective plates for the day in an effort to ensure that we can
support one another. Administratively, I immediately prioritize emails, phone
messages, and essential tasks for my morning. Most importantly, I get coffee
from the awesome shop in our student union.

what's the biggest issue for the students on your campus right now?
Our campus is investing in new facilities and executing an ambitious master
plan. We're always working to grow with our students and ensure that they're
invested and informed.

what's the biggest issue you see facing the profession right now?
I think there are two issues that are equally important. First, we are looking
at an incredible influx of international students in the United States. We need
to go beyond adapting existing services; there will need to be a paradigm shift
in how we develop and evaluate our processes, hiring, and administrative
practices. As housing professionals, we have a candid audience looking for
safe, reliable, and engaging communities. What an awesome opportunity
for learning! Second, we need to be regularly re-evaluating our conduct
and student support practices. What were once seemingly simple conduct
conversations are now being scrutinized and evaluated both inside and outside
of our organizations. It's essential that we work with our campus partners to
create learning-centered, defensible practices.

what makes your campus unique?

The University of Kansas has a long history of giving voice to students, and
so much of what we do engenders authentic student input. Watching student
input and feedback come to life is powerful.

what resource can't you live without?
Currently . . . Twitter. It has allowed me to connect with so many ideas and
professionals that I'm never without perspective, input, or advice.

what's on your computer's
desktop?

Best session/speaker/book you've been impressed by?

Anything space and/or aviation
related. If we have the technology,
skill, and tenacity to fly planes,
launch rockets, and explore
space, anything in an office is
possible.
