Recovery
On The Ohio State University's
campus in Columbus,
the Collegiate Recovery
Community celebrates its
second anniversary. Sarah
Nerad is pleased with this
accomplishment. As the
program manager for the
community and the director
of recovery for the OSU
Higher Education Center for
Alcohol and Drug Misuse
Prevention and Recovery,
she is excited and is proud
to have been involved from
the beginning. "At the start
of fall 2014, we had 15 official
members," she says. Students
need to apply to become official
members and are responsible
for filling out an application
and submitting two letters
of recommendation. Once a
member, students are eligible
for recovery scholarships and
priority registration for classes.
"There remains a steady 25-30
students at Ohio State who
are not official members (yet!)
but engage with us in various
capacities," says Nerad. In 2013,
the first national survey on these
recovery programs showed that
students who were involved
were 92 percent successful in
maintaining their recovery.

(Res) Life Is a Ball (Pit)
It never fails. Just when you think you've seen every possible way to decorate
or modify a room, students manage to surprise even the most seasoned
professionals. A video featuring David Nichol, a student at Rice University in
Houston, Texas, went viral after showcasing his imaginative and creative way to
utilize his residence hall room. He filled his room with 13,000 brightly colored
plastic balls much like those found at gaming areas for young children. Think
ball pit - really big ball pit. Nichol says that he was inspired by a comic strip but
also by the idea that you should have fun at any age.
