Zika Awareness Although mainstream media direct much of the coverage of Zika to pregnant women, there are also concerns about protecting students on campus. As of June 2016 there was a confirmed case and potentially more at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa stemming from study abroad programs in Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America, or South America. Fortunately, many housing divisions are savvy about responding to student health events, and many have created information sheets about Zika like this one from the University of Pennsylvania: http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/ shs/campushealth/zika. -Camille Perlman Dog Training on Campus Allin is UCF's newest puppy who just entered the program this fall. Robin is Florida's first puppy who completed the first phase of her program and moved on in May of this year. The University of Central Florida is allowing service dogs to be trained on their Orlando campus for the first time. The non-profit organization Canine Companions for Independence will be providing the dogs and guiding students through how to properly train them. The student trainers will have the option to live in the Lake Claire Living Community, a four-bedroom apartment complex on campus. Assistant Director of Housing Lynell Hodge explained that students will be evaluated through a detailed application process by Canine Companions, to ensure that they're a good fit for the program from both a time commitment and a financial standpoint. -Johana Langova PHOTOS COURTESY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL FLORIDA SEPTEMBER + OCTOBER 2016 13http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/shs/campushealth/zika http://www.vpul.upenn.edu/shs/campushealth/zika
