AROUND STUDENT AFFAIRS Poll Offers Insights into Freedom of Expression on Campus A new Gallup poll about freedom of expression on campus was released in September. U.S. students and adults were surveyed, and here are the major highlights: U.S. students feel that their rights to free speech are secure, but they are less sure about groups on campus being able to assemble peacefully; students support freedom of speech for other people and the press, but some would consider restrictions; students on campus are basically positive about the racial climate on their campus; students feel that the U.S. should do more to accommodate religious beliefs; students turn to social media for their news instead of the press; and both students and adults agree that the American public does not do a good job of seeking out and listening to differing opinions.
