by Matthew Venaas, a research manager for Skyfactor. His valuable contribution drew from the responses of 20,000
students at 15 different institutions who
were asked about their experiences with
the room assignment process. Among
the findings was that residents generally
are satisfied with the process, their roommates, and their rooms and that room assignment satisfaction is a top predictor of
overall program effectiveness. In addition,
the surveys showed that students who
request a room change (about one in 10
reported) and receive it are much happier
with their room and the assignments process after the fact.

Education in Tucson. Along with firsthand experiences shared by the 19 trans
and non-binary participants who were
interviewed, the article also presents a
number of suggestions that would move
campuses beyond gender-inclusive housing to what they called gender-expansive
housing. Those include ensuring that such

housing options are accessible, are staffed
by individuals intentionally prepared to
serve the needs of a gender-diverse population, and prioritize and center trans and
non-binary students.
