But the absence of an official pharmaceutical executive CPD body and qualification does not preclude the myriad opportunities that exist for execs across Europe and the US to further their careers in the industry in structured and accountable ways. Recent years, for example, have seen a growth in MBAs in pharmaceutical management, which can provide intensive, practical, sector-specific training in exactly the kind of strategic areas where executives C are likely to find themselves making decisions as their careers progress. ‘MiniMBAs,’ which offer a convenient route into a MBA, or, for the very busy, an unofficial alternative to the traditional qualification, are also taking off in a big way. In this, the second of our e-supplements to Pharm Exec Europe, we take a look at some of the different ways in which you can further your professional development — from supportive, nurturing approaches such as mentoring and networking, to the more didactic, classroom-based methods of postgraduate and continuing education. Whichever method is more suitable for you, it is important to realize that, however senior you may be, there is always room for improvement, and that paying attention to the professional development avenues that are open to you is likely to pay dividends in the end.
