American Gas - March 2011 - (Page 2)
President’s message
greetings
By working together, we can achieve amazing goals, says Dave mcCurdy, aGa’s new president and Ceo.
To The many thousands of you who read AGA’s flagship publication, American Gas, I am Dave McCurdy, and I am honored to have been asked to serve as the new president and CEO of this great association. In succeeding Dave Parker in this job, I follow in the footsteps of a man who was not only a gifted leader and strategic visionary, but also a friend—I have known Dave for more than 20 years, and we worked closely together on a number of issues. He has my sincerest thanks for the invaluable advice he has already shared with me about this association, its members and staff. He also has my best wishes as he enters the next chapter of his life. I come to AGA from the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, where I also served as president and CEO, and before that I led the Electronic Industries Alliance, so I am very familiar with the association world. I am also very familiar with the political process, having served seven terms as a member of Congress, representing the Fourth Congressional District of Oklahoma. So, yes, I am also a “Sooner” and proud of it, in great part because Oklahoma is a state in which energy exploration and production is a way of life. I grew up in Oklahoma’s oil and gas patch, so I am very familiar with the amazing advances in technology that now allow us to produce energy in an efficient, cost-effective and environmentally responsible manner. I am also well aware of the new unconventional sources of natural gas that are coming to market, especially shale gas, which has the potential to be a true game-changer

with respect to our long-term domestic gas supply outlook. Certainly I plan to share this wonderful supply story at every opportunity with our key partners and stakeholders. Of course, I still have a lot to learn about this industry, and I look forward to learning from the experts, especially the dedicated leaders at our member companies. My first task is to visit as many members as I can, both to share with them my vision for AGA going forward and to get their input on AGA’s highest priorities and how, together, we can put those priorities in place. I also look forward to learning from the talented staff here at AGA’s headquarters—a staff I am just getting to know, but one that has certainly lived up to its sterling reputation. In the interview I conducted with AGA’s editors, starting on p. 22 of this issue—an interview I hope will help introduce me to those of you who are the backbone of this industry—the theme I frequently return to is a “sustainable” energy policy. I firmly believe that the time is right for this nation to put in place an energy policy that includes increased domestic energy production, expanded energy conservation and a long-term focus on clean sources of energy, including wind, solar, nuclear and, of course, natural gas. To these ends, I ask for your help. Together, there is nothing we cannot achieve.
