State Senate Recognizes Missouri Gas Energy’s Efforts in Joplin In late March, the Missouri Senate issued a formal resolution recognizing Missouri Gas Energy’s employees for their response to restore service and assist the Joplin community after the devastating tornado in May 2011. Sponsored by Sen. Ron Richard, R–Joplin, the resolution extended the appreciation of the Senate for the extraordinary efforts and hard work of MGE employees, many of whom were called upon to work long hours in trying conditions to stabilize Joplin’s natural gas delivery system so that repairs could begin. Some MGE employees did so even despite damage to or loss of their own and family members’ homes. The proclamation also recognized MGE and its parent company, Southern Union, for their $50,000 charitable contribution to the Joplin chapters of the Red Cross and Salvation Army and for MGE’s innovative Rebuild Joplin Program, which offers enhanced rebates for energy-efﬁcient natural gas appliances and new home construction (www.betterheatingnow. com/Joplin). The Rebuild Joplin Program, which doubles many existing MGE energy efﬁciency incentives, is designed to assist tornado victims, encourage rebuilding efforts and promote energy efﬁciency in tornado-impacted areas in and around Joplin.
