LnG sports car: Racing Toward Acceptance
Legendary race team owner and wildcatter U.E.
“Pat” Patrick plans to launch an LNG-fueled
sports car later this year. The Patrick Racing team
expects the car to debut this summer in an American Le Mans Series’ Prototype Challenge race.
“Natural gas is destined to become a major player
in the transportation industry for everyday passenger vehicles, and not just fleet operations,” said
Patrick. “For more than a century, racing has been
at the tip of the spear in developing new technology for the transportation industry. This is in line
with and in the spirit of that history.” Jim McGee,
one of the most successful crew chiefs in IndyCar
racing history, is handling the technical side. “The
engine has been going through constant development and testing and is performing exceptionally
well,” says Paul Brian of Pegasus Marketing, which
is supporting the effort. —Gary James
