TOKENS OF APPRECIATION: Sandy Coins
No one in the utilities industry will soon forget
the widespread destruction and service outages
wrought by Superstorm Sandy along the East
Coast last October. Now hundreds of men and
women who helped get the gas back on quickly
and safely can carry a permanent reminder of how
much their heroic work was appreciated. AGA has
distributed nearly 2,500 commemorative brass
coins at dozens of member utilities that participat-
ed in recovery efforts through AGA’s Mutual Assistance Program. Hundreds more have been ordered
by member utilities to recognize employees who
pitched in at home, covering for colleagues who
traveled to storm-ravaged regions. “Sandy recovery
was an extraordinary team effort,” says Christina
Sames, vice president of operations and engineering at AGA. “This has been a wonderful way to
recognize that.” —Jennifer Pilla Taylor
