ADA Awarded Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional
Continuing Education; Now Offers Maintenance of
Certification Credit Through the American Board of
Internal Medicine
The American Diabetes Association's
(ADA's) Professional Services Department
recently received Joint Accreditation for
Interprofessional Continuing Education for
health care professionals and the ability to
offer Maintenance of Certification (MOC)
credit to physicians through the American
Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
The ADA was awarded Joint Accreditation
for Continuing Interprofessional
Education through the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical
Education, the Accreditation Council for
Pharmacy Education, and the American
Nurses Credentialing Center. This des-
ignation allows ADA to offer continuing
education credit for physicians, nurses,
pharmacists, physician assistants, psychologists, and social workers.
The intensive 18-month accreditation
process included a self-study, an audit
of the ADA and select programs, and an
interprofessional interview with leaders
of the ADA professional education team
and the accrediting boards. Based on
the Association's stellar programs, it was
awarded the maximum 6-year accreditation term.
As of February, the ADA now offers
MOC credit to physicians through the
American Board of Internal Medicine,
in collaboration with the Accreditation
Council for Continuing Medical
Education for live programs. This
provides the opportunity for ABIM
board-certified physicians to earn MOC
credits for thousands of accredited activities. It provides doctors with a pathway to
remain current in the medical knowledge
they use to treat patients and to improve
their ability to make important health
care decisions for better patient care.

as a prestigious international leader in
education," said Kristine Paschalis, ADA
Managing Director, Professional Services.
"The new accreditations expand ADA's
ability to provide high-caliber professional education programs that are effective
in improving the knowledge and competencies of health care professionals and in
advancing team-based care."
