Live Informational Event
Dr. Henry Rodriguez, co-chair of the American Diabetes
Association's (ADA's) Safe at School Working Group, and
Dr. Robert Gabbay, ADA's Chief Scientific & Medical Officer,
recently presented a Facebook Live conversation about the
Safe at School program and best practices for students with
diabetes. This March 30 event provided useful information
to pediatric diabetes health care providers, school nurses,
and school administrators. A recording of the presentation is
accessible on ADA's Facebook page.
Recap of Recent Safe at School Events
Dr. Fran Cogen, director of the diabetes center at Children's
National Medical Center in Washington, DC, and Crystal
Woodward, director of the ADA's Safe at School program
recently presented a 1-hour virtual workshop for pediatric
diabetes health care providers. A recording of the program,
which was held on March 4 and attracted 260 attendees, is
available for viewing on the ADA's social media platforms and
website and also may be accessed directly on YouTube.
Ms. Woodward was also the special guest on a February
25 episode of ADA's " Be A Friend Friday, " Facebook and
YouTube program, covering topics from legal protections
to written plans to resources for pediatric diabetes health
care providers, school nurses, and parents/guardians of
children with diabetes.
Diabetes School Plan Template Available
The Safe at School program is now offering a new Diabetes
Medical Management Plan (DMMP) for use by schools
and pediatric diabetes health care providers nationwide.
This new fillable pdf form facilitates more standardized,
efficient completion of student diabetes care orders,
enabling prescribers to tailor care instructions to individual
students and providing greater clarity for school nurses and
other school caregivers.
