Strategies to Help Your Patients
Meet A1C Goals Sooner
Despite the approval of more than 40 new diabetes treatment options since
2005, as well as advancements in guidelines and treatment algorithms,
we still have not been able to make a meaningful difference in improving
glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes. In fact, between 1999 and
2014, the percentage of people with diabetes with an A1C >9% increased.
One reason is known as " therapeutic inertia, " defined as delay or inaction to
initiate or intensify therapy when treatment goals have not been met.
The American Diabetes Association's (ADA's) Overcoming Therapeutic
Inertia Continuing Education Certificate Program is designed to
empower clinicians with knowledge and strategies to identify and bust
through inertia in their practice. Featuring seven self-paced modules, a selfassessment
program, and three live events, the certificate program provides
up to 11.75 CE credits or ABIM MOC points. Registration includes a 1-year
ADA professional membership for new members.
Today, overcoming therapeutic inertia is more possible than ever. Register now.
What You Need to Know to Optimize Care for People with Diabetes
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is excited to
announce the spring 2022 launch of the Diabetes Is Primary
(DIP) Continuing Education Certificate Program. This virtual
educational initiative, developed specifically for primary care
health care professionals, offers information and strategies
to improve patient outcomes. Participants who complete the
course will master the ADA's Standards of Medical Care in
Diabetes-the gold standard for diabetes management.
The 2022 DIP program features 12 interactive, on-demand
modules on topics including diagnosis and classification
of diabetes, pharmacotherapy, insulin therapy, diabetes
prevention, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic neuropathy,
mental health, obesity management, deep dives into chronic
kidney disease and cardiovascular disease in diabetes, and
transitions of care. The self-paced, online format delivers
easily accessible continuing education that fits into the
schedules of busy clinicians.
In addition to new content to bring participants up to speed
with rapidly evolving guidance on diabetes management
and treatment, the 2022 DIP course has been refreshed with
cutting-edge online-education technology and techniques.
" Clinicians today are juggling multiple demands for their
attention, " Dr. Robert A. Gabbay, ADA's Chief Medical and
Scientific Officer, said. " We want the learning experience to
be practical, applicable, and enjoyable. "
DIP is developed by primary care providers for primary
care providers on the frontlines of diabetes management.
Creation of the program is overseen by the ADA's Primary
Care Advisory Group (PCAG), which includes Hope Feldman,
CRNP, FNP-BC - Chair; Nuha El Sayed, MD, MMSc - ADA
Lead; Rozalina G. McCoy, MD, MS; Joy A. Moverley, MPH,
DHSc, PA-C; Sean M. Oser, MD MPH; Alissa Segal, PharmD,
CDCES, CDTC, FCCP; Neil Skolnik, MD; Jennifer Trujillo,
PharmD, FCCP, BCPS, CDCES, BC-ADM; and Stephen
Brunton, MD - Ex Officio.
Although designed with primary care practitioners in mind, the
course provides an excellent foundation in diabetes care and
is appropriate for any clinicians who are new to practice or
seeking a refresher on the clinical management of diabetes.
ADA is pleased to be able to offer this course-a $360
value-for FREE in 2022.
" DIP helps primary
care providers get
up to speed with the
latest ADA Standards
of Care updates, "
PCAG Chair Hope
Feldman said. " The
strategies shared in
the course are useful
to any clinicians who
want to improve the
care of their patients
with diabetes. Our
goal is to reach as
many clinicians as
possible with this
critical information. "
