More than 210 primary care providers attended Diabetes
Is Primary, which was offered as an American Diabetes
Association (ADA) Scientific Sessions preconference on Friday,
June 7 in San Francisco, CA. This year's program highlighted
patient-centered care, diabetes technology, treatment options,
and cardiovascular disease.
"This year's Diabetes Is Primary was our most successful to
date, with more than 200 primary care providers," said Eric L.
Johnson, MD, chair of the association's Primary Care Advisory
Group. "The last 12 months have ushered in extraordinary
change in diabetes management options, and we feel it is incredibly important to keep primary care providers up to date on
these advancements."
Attendees spent the day learning about nutrition in a primary
care setting, physical activity, and caring for Asian-American,
Pacific Islander, and Native Hawaiian populations. The program
included iPad technology to enhance learning, as well as breakout sessions to enable smaller-group discussions.
"It's important that ADA highlight relevant updates to its
Standards of Medical Care in Diabetes for primary care providers," said Hope Feldman, CRNP, FNP-BC, vice chair of the
Primary Care Advisory Group. "In addition to new guidelines,
we hope attendees learned new skills to enhance patient care
and improve health outcomes."

way, we can help keep providers up to date all year long."
