Association Welcomes New Interest Group Chairs and
Chair-Elects
Seven of the American Diabetes Association's (ADA's) 15 Professional Interest Groups
have transitioned and welcomed new chairs and chair-elects for the 2019-2021 term.
These individuals will provide direction to the Interest Groups, plan Scientific Sessions
events, lead engagement on the DiabetesPro Member Forum, and organize other activities. Members were selected for these roles based on their leadership experience and
commitment to diabetes research, care, and education in specialized areas.

WIN ADA 79th Scientific Sessions Events Recap
Mini Symposium
The 79th Scientific Sessions Women's Interprofessional Network of the American Diabetes
Association (WIN ADA) mini-symposium, "Using Tools and Strategies to Effectively
Communicate Science," led by Joyce Lee, MD, MPH, and Krishana Sankar, BS (Hons), of
the University of Michigan and Chandra Osborn, PhD, of Lirio, LLC, was an interactive
session focused on leveraging social media to promote research and network with other
professionals. Attendees were taught how to use Twitter, including sharing and posting
content, using hashtags, and following colleagues. During the conference, 79 tweets were
posted using the #WINADA hashtag.
Networking and Awards
Several hundred professionals attended WIN ADA's third annual networking reception.
This event, which aims to facilitate collaborations between women scientists, educators,
and clinicians, also recognizes member achievements via five WIN ADA Awards. This
year's reception included a new award in honor of Lois Jovanovic, MD, an iconic woman
scientist in the field of diabetes and pregnancy who passed away in September 2018,
as well as four Abstract Awards. The WIN ADA Awards were presented by advisory
group members Jane Reusch, MD, Darleen Sandoval, PhD, and Brenda Montgomery,
RN, MSHS, CDE, as well as Kristin Santorino, DO, from the Sansum Diabetes Research
Institute-Dr. Jovanovic's former mentee.
