Lois Jovanovic Transformative Woman in
Diabetes Award
Elizabeth R. Seaquist, MD
Dr. Seaquist is a professor of medicine, director of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes,
and Metabolism, and vice chair for Clinical
Affairs at the University of Minnesota. She is
also the associate director of the university's Medical Scientist
Training Program, as well as medical director of the Medical
Subspecialty Service Line at MHealth Fairview.
An internationally recognized clinical investigator, Dr. Seaquist
has conducted pioneering work on the impact of diabetes and
iatrogenic hypoglycemia on cerebral metabolism, structure, and
function and directed high-profile clinical trials in these areas.
Her scientific contributions focus on understanding hypoglycemia and human brain glucose metabolism from the bedside to
the population level.
Since 2000, Dr. Seaquist has served as a model investigator for
women in diabetes. She has mentored female junior faculty
members who are actively involved in diabetes, obesity, and insulin
resistance research. She has also served in mentorship and leadership positions within the ADA, including serving as President of
Medicine and Science in 2014 and on the Pathway to Stop Diabetes
Mentor Advisory Group. She also received the ADA's Banting
Medal for Service and Distinguished Clinician Scientist awards.
WIN ADA Abstract Awards
This year's WIN ADA Abstract Awards, in the categories of Basic
Science, Behavioral Medicine, Clinical Diabetes, and Sex as a
Biological Variable, were presented to Danielle Dean, PhD, of
Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Samantha Ehrlich, PhD,
MPH, of Kaiser Permanente Southern California, Xiang Liu,
PhD, of the University of South Florida, and Aki T-B. Chaffin,
PhDc, of the University of California Davis, respectively.
WIN ADA Career Development
Conference - Indianapolis, IN
Join the Women's Interprofessional Network of
the American Diabetes Association (WIN ADA)
this November for a full-day career development
program developed specifically for professional
women in diabetes. Program topics include:
* Women in Leadership
* Expanding Your Network
* Imposter Syndrome
* Work-Life Integration
The event will be held on November 15, 2019,
from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., including a 90minute networking reception. It will be held at the
Marriott East, 7202 East 21st St., in Indianapolis.
