ADA Professional Membership Groups Recognize Outstanding
Abstracts at 82nd Scientific Sessions
The Women's Interprofessional Network of the American Diabetes Association (WIN ADA) and 12 Interest Groups of the
American Diabetes Association (ADA) each bestowed awards for outstanding abstracts at the 82nd Scientific Sessions.
Interest Group Abstract Awards
WIN ADA Abstract Awards
WIN ADA awarded three abstract awards at this
year's meeting.
Alison Affinati,
MD, PhD, was
awarded the
Basic Science:
Islet Biology,
Immunology,
Physiology,
or Obesity
Abstract Award for her abstract titled " Ventromedial
Hypothalamic Nucleus Controls Glucose Metabolism
through Adipose Tissue Lipolysis. "
Rebecca Vitale,
MD, MPH, was
recognized with
an abstract award
in the category
of Behavioral
Medicine,
Nutrition, Exercise,
and Education for the abstract " The Emotional
Burden of Diabetes during Emerging Adulthood:
'Cost. Everything Else Is Secondary.' "
The abstract
award for
Clinical
Diabetes,
Epidemiology,
and Diabetes
Complications
was given to
Elaine Chow, MBChB, PhD, for the abstract titled
" Dorzagliatin, a Dual-Acting Glucokinase Activator.
Improves Insulin Secretion and Glucose Sensitivity
in Glucokinase-Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the
Young (GCK-MODY). "
The recipients were recognized during WIN ADA's
Scientific Sessions Networking Reception and
awarded honoraria. These awards are distributed
annually to WIN ADA members who present
outstanding abstracts at the meeting.
ADA Interest Groups recognized early-career members with awards
for their research presented at this year's Scientific Sessions in the
following categories: Behavioral Medicine & Psychology, Diabetes
in Youth, Diabetes Self-Management Education & Support,
Diabetes Technology, Exercise Physiology, Eye Health, Foot
Care, Health Care Delivery & Quality Improvement, Immunology,
Immunogenetics, & Transplantation, Islet Biology, Development,
& Function, Nutritional Science & Metabolism, and Pregnancy &
Reproductive Health. Researchers were eligible to be considered
for these awards if they were ADA members early in their career,
within 10 years of completion of their terminal degree.
The recipients were acknowledged during each Interest Group's
discussion session or networking event during the meeting. Each
recipient was recognized with a certificate and an honorarium. The
recipients were also invited to present a short overview of their
research during a June 28 webinar. View the recorded webinar and
