" Community impact projects are the cornerstone of
diabetes support within our communities and allow
the ADA the ability to focus resources on health in
low-income communities nationwide, " Dr. Robert
Gabbay, ADA's Chief Scientific & Medical Officer
said. " Seventy percent of a person's health and
well-being is driven by social determinants of health.
We want to help fight food insecurity and create
positive change for low-resource communities in
Montgomery and Tampa by increasing access to
healthy foods and initiating environmental change. "
The Pfizer Foundation's Accelerating Health Equity
Grants program was established in 2020 to support
community-based organizations
working to improve the health
of Black communities across
the United States. To date, the
program has awarded $7 million
to over 15 community nonprofit

Know Diabetes by Heart Offers Cutting-Edge Resources Focused on the Link
Between Cardiovascular Disease and Type 2 Diabetes
The American Heart Association and the American
Diabetes Association (ADA), along with industry leaders,
are working together on the groundbreaking Know
Diabetes by Heart initiative to reduce cardiovascular
deaths, heart attacks, heart failure, and strokes in
people living with type 2 diabetes. The initiative
provides health care professionals with resources
to learn more about and address the link between
cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes.
Recently, Know Diabetes by Heart hosted an expert
panel discussion on new research presented at
the ADA's 82nd Scientific Sessions, including new
science related to CVD and renal risk management.
The discussion covered practical applications of new
research findings to improve clinical care and patient
outcomes. A webinar recording of the discussion is
available on the Know Diabetes by Heart website.

their risk for CVD and the importance of blood
pressure, lipid, and glucose control in managing that
risk. Listen to recent episodes of the Know Diabetes
by Heart podcast to learn why diabetes must be

pressure, and cholesterol levels-and how to help
patients improve their numbers to lower their risk.
