Association's Member Forum Receives
National Recognition
The American Diabetes Association's (ADA's) DiabetesPro
Member Forum was recently recognized as a top finalist for two
national awards. The Member Forum, an online communications
platform for ADA professional members, uses Higher Logic's
online community software. During Higher Logic's Super
Forum conference in November 2019, it placed second for
awards in the Best Community Site Design and Most Successful
Online Community Launch (Nonprofit Sector) categories.
The Best Community Site Design Award recognized a top-tier
online forum with pleasing aesthetics and smooth navigation.
The Most Successful Online Community Launch Award
acknowledged an organization that launched its forum within
the past year and implemented exceptional member engagement
and marketing strategies.
With social networking communities for ADA's 16 Interest
Groups, the Women's Interprofessional Network (WIN ADA), and
Advisory Groups, the Member Forum enables like-minded diabetes
professionals to communicate regularly and share resources. Since
the Forum's launch in 2018, ADA's Interest Groups and WIN
ADA have held online discussions related to clinical care, career
development, and new research; organized webinars on diabetes
in primary care, diabetes mobile apps, machine learning, and
professional development; planned the November 2019 WIN ADA
Career Development Program; conducted and evaluated surveys
assessing member attitudes and interests; and more.
More than 500 staff from Higher Logic's 3,000 client
organizations attended the Super Forum.
"It is incredibly exciting to see ADA's mission and professional
membership in the spotlight," said Alvin C. Powers, MD, Chair of
the MAG, Director of the Vanderbilt Diabetes Center, and ADA's
Past President, Medicine & Science.
"This recognition is a testament to the work of ADA's
Membership Advisory Group [MAG] and ADA's Professional
Membership Initiative," Dr. Powers said. "Thanks to the
members of MAG and ADA staff for this important work,
which enhances the value of ADA membership."

Association Welcomes First Eye Health Interest Group Leadership
Team Group Members
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) recently created a new
Interest Group on Eye Health, bringing together international
clinicians and scientists to advance the understanding of diabetes
and eye care, including the prevention and management of
diabetic retinopathy.
All professional members were invited to apply to join the new
Eye Health Interest Group Leadership Team, an interdisciplinary
volunteer group that will spearhead the Interest Group's activities,
including Scientific Sessions events, webinars, and online
discussions via the DiabetesPro Member Forum. This group will
also be involved in the development and evaluation of ADA's
overarching eye health efforts.
